Lauryn Hill hasn’t made a new album in over a decade, and as fans we’ve all been rooting for some new music. First and foremost though, we’ve always wished the best for her, even during her difficult times. After recently admitting that she hasn’t been paying her taxes, the consequences are starting to catch up with her. She could face a possible three years in prison for not paying her taxes. Here’s why:

Appearing in U.S. District Court in Newark, Hill admitted failing to file tax returns from 2005 to 2007. She faces a maximum one-year sentence on each of the three counts. She was charged three weeks ago. Hill admitted she didn’t pay taxes on about $818,000 earned in 2005, $222,000 in 2006 and $761,000 in 2007. The money was earned by four corporations she owned.

Although she made a long post on her tumblr about the issue, it doesn’t stop her from having to face the consequences. I’m praying for Lauryn, and I truly the wish the best for her.
