2011 MTV Movie Awards:Bravo?

After twenty years on air it would seem only right for the annual “MTV Movie Awards” to do something different or out of the box, but this year’s award show was the standard for all previous airings in the past. Standard meaning an attempt at humor with a talented comedian hosting but with a badly written script showcasing none of their skills , a host of B-list actors receiving awards for at best D-list performances, and a few mildly offensive jokes slapped in between performances and award nominations and there you have the “MTV Movie Awards”. Each year I tune in hoping for something extraordinary and a possibility of a legitimate laugh but this year I was left underwhelmed and even more disappointed at the lack of performances, which this year was a measly two; Lupe Fiasco ft. Trey Songz and the Foo Fighters. It is obvious many viewers have the same high expectations, a hint as to why the award show has lasted this long. This year’s show was hosted by Saturday Night Live cast member Jason Sudeikis, a great actor/comedian who fell victim to MTV’s awfully written script. Sudeikis was joined by Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis, Chelsea Handler, Aziz Ansari and several others who helped to present awards. The cast of ”The Twilight Eclipse” series took home top honors by winning five awards out of the categories, including Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Kiss, Best Fight, and the big dog, Best Movie. Other winners included Justin Bieber in “Never Say Never” for Jaw Dropping Performance and Emma Stone for Best Comedic Performance in “Easy A”. In between Reese Witherspoon was honored with the “Generation Award” for her appearance in a host of entertaining movies over the past ten years, and in keeping the theme of show Witherspoon gave a very vulgar and out of character acceptance speech as to not be outdone by her counterparts. The highlight of the exposition was the final performance by Lupe Fiasco ft. Trey Songz performing his new single “Out of My Head” , despite their corny leather getup, the two helped to break up the monotony of the show. The presentation was capped off with one final stand up by Sudeikis. Overall, it is safe to say that the “MTV Movie Awards” is another example of the lack of decent entertainment on television that my generation has been forced to endure, but “hey it sells!!” I am however hopeful that we will all get tired of lackluster entertainment and do something about it. With more award shows on the horizon it may turn out to be the best of the summer season, but time will determine that ..Until next time..”Stay Conscious”
